Upon graduation from the University of Southampton in Civil Engineering in 1983, he joined JKR where he was involved in various geotechnical designs and reserches until 1988.
He pursued his studies at the University of Bristol, and was awarded PhD in 1989. He continued his service with JKR as a Research Engineer for another 5 years before leaving in 1994 and became a partner in an engineering consultant firm, Perunding ZNA. In April 2002, he left Perunding ZNA to establish Mohd Asbi and Associates. He is currently the Managing Director of Mohd Asbi & Associates and Innoharvest Sdn. Bhd. In the subject of academics, he has published more than 40 papers in journals and proceedings for local and international conferences. In the course of his career, some of his notable appointments are: • 1983 - 1987 A member of Search and Rescue Team (SAR), Cabinet Committee & MPAJ Board of Inquiry during the Highland Towers Condominium collapse tragedy. • 1995 Appointed as the lead investigator by Resort World Berhad to undertake investigation of debris flow at slip road to Genting Highland. • 1997 Appointed by Board of Engineers (BEM) as the lead investigator of the failure of Hill 10, Gua Tempurung. • 2003 As independent investigator to the construction accident at The Curve project at Mutiara Damansara and collapse gable-end wall at Desa Mentari apartments. The Consultant for Bukit Lanjan rockfall incident at km 21.8 of the New Klang Valley Expressway. |
