Introduction
SECTION 1 (9.00-10.45)
• Methods to assess probable causes of slope failures & information required
• SI methods & design parameters for slope repair/stabilization works.
• Methods of slope stabilization: selection chart, checklist, required parameters, applications & limitations, etc.
• Works specification & instrumentation
• Sample of construction details & scope of QC tests, etc., of typical slope stabilization methods will be given as a guide.
SECTION 2 (11.00-13.00)
• Case Study 1: Three (3) failed cut slopes of various heights and site conditions with site plan plus x-sections and photos will be given. Participants are required:
1. Based on information given, describe failure modes and determine the likely/probable causes of failure. Brief SI results will be given.
2. Based on selection chart, recommend suitable methods of slope stabilization. Discussion design concept involved. Compare the pros and cons for each feasible method. What are the critical design parameters and performance requirements? What shall be the scope of design validation?
SECTION 3 (14.00-15.30)
• Case Study 2: As case study 1, but for 3 failed filled slopes
SECTION 4 (15.45-17.00)
• Case Study 3: As case study 1, but for retaining wall sites.
